Many employers have recruited new workers over the pandemic period. A recent ONS survey showed that 6.1% of all employed people moved jobs in the first half of 2020, and more than half of them began a new career in an entirely different industry.

Employers should, as part of their onboarding programme, provide all new starters with a home workstation risk assessment. This will ensure that the new worker’s home working set-up suits their individual needs. These risk assessments are even more important when workers are remote, as each person’s workstation and working environment will be completely different.

Through providing an assessment and implementing recommended changes companies, will show their new starters that they care about their working comfort and help them to feel supported as well as creating a sense of belonging.

Ergo at Work can provide both remote and face to face home workstation assessments to ensure that new starters either have, or are provided with, suitable equipment and furniture to enable them to do their jobs. In addition, during the assessment workers will be educated on optimal workstation set-up and good working practices. They will also be taught suitable exercises and stretches that they can do at their desks to help them to be more comfortable, happier and productive during the working day.
