What are Working From Home Assessments?

Working from home/remote assessments are an assessment of an home or office workstation undertaken virtually using video conferencing.

The aim of a working from home assessment is to identify and analyse any risk factors which may be causing current or future health problems, or may be reducing work performance and then to advise and educate the worker on how to stay healthy and comfortable in their workplace.

What happens during the assessment?

Initially we will collect some background information about the worker including any discomfort that they may be experiencing when working. We will then review their working routine, job tasks, equipment and environment. At the time of the assessment where possible, we will help the worker to make simple changes to improve their set-up and if necessary suggest new equipment or furniture. We will also spend time discussing the worker’s habits and day to day activities. We may offer advice on appropriate stretches and exercise, and suggest how they may be incorporated into the working day.

How long does a remote assessment take?

The assessment will take 45-60 minutes.

A report will be provided following the assessment. This will outline any changes that were made to the workstation at the time of the assessment and discuss our recommendations regarding workstation set-up, training and education, individual behaviours, working posture and equipment.

Follow up

A follow-up assessment is particularly useful if a worker has purchased new furniture or equipment following their initial assessment and needs advice on set-up. A follow-up may also be helpful in order to review a worker’s discomfort levels after their initial evaluation.
